FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
General
What is gestational age?
Gestational age is how far along your pregnancy is, calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period. This is the standard way healthcare providers track your pregnancy’s progress. For example, when we say you’re “20 weeks pregnant,” we’re referring to your gestational age.
How accurate are ultrasounds?
Ultrasounds are highly accurate when performed by trained professionals like our team. For measurements and dating, they’re typically accurate within 3-5 days in early pregnancy and within 1-2 weeks in later pregnancy. Gender determination is 99% accurate from 14 weeks onward, provided we can get a clear view of the relevant anatomy.
What to expect during an ultrasound?
Your ultrasound session will take place in the comfort of your chosen space – typically your home. We’ll set up our portable equipment, and you’ll relax on your couch or bed. A small amount of warm gel will be applied to your belly, and our technician will use the ultrasound wand to capture images. You’ll be able to see everything on our high-resolution portable screen, and we’ll explain what you’re seeing throughout the session.
How to book an appointment?
Booking is simple! You can schedule directly through our website, call us, or send us a message. We’ll help you choose the best time and package for your needs. We recommend booking at least a week in advance for optimal scheduling, though we do our best to accommodate last-minute requests.
Do you accept insurance?
For our early pregnancy care services, we can provide documentation for insurance reimbursement. However, elective 3D/4D ultrasounds are considered non-medical and typically aren’t covered by insurance. We offer various payment plans to make these special moments accessible to all families.
How safe is this?
Ultrasound has been used safely in pregnancy for over 50 years. We follow all FDA guidelines and use professional-grade equipment operated by trained technicians. Our sessions are kept to a reasonable length, and we use the minimum amount of acoustic power needed to get clear images.
Can I bring my other children?
Absolutely! We encourage family involvement and create a welcoming environment for siblings. Our mobile service means children can be comfortable in their own home environment while meeting their new brother or sister on screen.
What form of payment can I use?
We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, HSA/FSA cards, cash, and digital payment methods like Venmo and PayPal. Payment is required at the time of booking to secure your appointment.
Early Pregnancy Care
When should I schedule an early pregnancy assessment?
We can see you as soon as you have a positive pregnancy test! Many people
come to us when they’re between 4-12 weeks pregnant and want to check on
their pregnancy before their first OB visit. We’re here for you if you want
early answers or have any concerns.
What happens during my visits?
On your first visit, we’ll do a gentle ultrasound and quick blood test in
the comfort of your home. You’ll get same-day results and talk with our doctor
about everything we find. Two days later, we’ll come back for a second blood
test to see how your pregnancy is progressing.
How do I get my results?
We know waiting is hard! You’ll get your ultrasound results during your
visit, and blood test results the same day. We explain everything clearly
and answer all your questions. We’ll also send the information to your
future OB with your permission.
Do I need to do anything to prepare?
For early pregnancy, no special preparation is needed. Just have a
comfortable spot where you can relax during your visit. We bring everything
else needed!
What if you find something concerning?
We’re here to support you every step of the way. If we find anything
that needs attention, we’ll explain everything clearly and help connect
you with the right care right away. We work closely with local healthcare
providers to make sure you’re well taken care of.
Elective Ultrasound
What is the difference between 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound?
3D ultrasounds create still images that show your baby’s features in three dimensions – similar to a photograph. 4D ultrasounds add the element of time (the fourth dimension), allowing you to see your baby’s movements in real-time, like watching a video. Both provide beautiful views of your baby, just in different ways!
When is the best time to have a 3D/4D ultrasound?
The optimal time for 3D/4D ultrasounds is between 26-32 weeks of pregnancy. During this period, baby has developed good fat layers under the skin but still has enough room to move around, allowing us to capture those perfect pictures. However, great images can often be obtained from 24-34 weeks.
How sure are you about gender determination?
We’re about 99% accurate with gender determination after 15 weeks.
If baby’s position makes it tricky to tell, we’ll let you know and can
try again another day for free.
Can I bring family to watch?
Absolutely! That’s one of the best parts about our home visits. You
can have your loved ones there to share in this special moment. Our big
screen makes it easy for everyone to see.
What if my baby isn't cooperating?
Babies have their own schedule! If your little one isn’t in a good
position for the pictures you’re hoping for, we’ll take a short break
and try again. If needed, we’re happy to schedule another try at no
extra charge.
How good are you at determining the sex of the baby?
We’re 99% accurate at determining gender from 14 weeks onward, provided we can get a clear view. If we’re unable to determine gender due to baby’s position, we’ll schedule a complimentary follow-up session.
How can I be sure to get the best possible 3D/4D pictures?
For the best possible images, we recommend:
- Staying well-hydrated (drink plenty of water in the days before)
- Having a light meal about 30 minutes before the session
- Taking a short walk before the appointment to encourage baby to move
- Wearing comfortable, two-piece clothing
- We’ll provide complete preparation instructions when you book your appointment.
How long is the 3D/4D ultrasound session?
Our standard 3D/4D sessions last 30 minutes, which gives us plenty of time to capture beautiful images of your baby. If baby needs a little encouragement to show their face, we’re happy to extend the session as needed – we want you to have the best experience possible!
When do I get my 3D/4D pictures and videos?
You’ll receive your digital images and videos immediately after your session via secure download. We’ll also provide any printed images during the session. Additional copies or formats can be ordered through our website.
Will my doctor be contacted about the 3D/4D ultrasound?
While we don’t automatically contact your healthcare provider about elective 3D/4D sessions, we’re happy to provide images or reports to your doctor upon request. For our early pregnancy care services, we can send detailed reports to your healthcare team with your permission.
